Cellular Phone Use Safety Tips
Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association has created some cell phone safety tips. Although some seem obvious, see how many you violate.
- When available, use a hands-free device, such as an earpiece or a phone cradle.
- If you have a mobile phone, make sure your phone is properly mounted. It should be easy to access, within comfortable reach and as close to your line of vision as possible.
- If you have a portable phone, you may want to purchase a Navigator car kit to allow for hands-free capability and clearer reception.
- Do not take notes or look up phone numbers while driving.
- Dial sensibly and assess the traffic. If posible, place calls when you are not moving or before pulling into traffic.
- Do not engage in stressful or emoitional conversations that may divert your attention fro the road.
- Dial 911 to report serious emergencies only. It is a free call from all cell phones.
- Keep conversations short and sweet. Develop ways to get free of long-winded friends and associates while on the road. Don't use the cell phone for social visiting while you drive.
- Hang up in tricky traffic situations--without warning if necessary. You can explain later--because you'll still be alive!
Security Precautions:
Lock your phone whenever you park your car or leave your car with a parking attendant. Always leave your phone hidden from the view. Phones that are visible have a greater risk of being stolen. If your phone can be removed, we recommend carrying it with you when leaving the car unattended. Refer to your owner's manual for complete details on either locking or removing your phone.
If your vehicle or cellular telephone equipment is stolen, report the theft to the police and Customer Service Representative right away. Your cell phone company will take immediate action to prevent calls both to and from the stolen phone.
